Seduced in the Dark (The Dark Duet #2) by C.J. Roberts
The Dark Duet series is not your mom's romance. This dark erotica takes on the international world of human trafficking, revenge, betrayal, and love in a stark, brutal, and honest way. I think I enjoyed this book more than the first. The way the story unfolds with different timelines and POVs keeps the reader chomping at the bit for more.
When the book opens, Olivia Ruiz (also called Livvie or Kitten) is in a hospital back in America, and two FBI agents have lots of questions for her. So what happened? When we left Caleb, Livvie's captor, and Livvie in Captive in the Dark, he had just saved her from some terrible rapist bikers. As this story unfolds, the surviving bikers from Caleb's wrath will be seen again, and their lives have been changed forever.
Agent Matthew Reed is demanding answers from Livvie about how she escaped and what happened before she escaped. Initially Livvie isn't talking, but we journey through her memories and see the story play out. Livvie has grown, she is a woman with womanly knowledge and instincts, and her love for Caleb is strong and earnest. We get a bit of a glance into Agent Reed's life, which is a hot glance at that.
Caleb. What is there to say about a beautiful and damaged man like this? His unprofessed love for Livvie did not keep him from showing how he felt, even if he didn't know how to say it. He was torn between his loyalty to the man who pulled him from his own hell of sexual slavery and the young woman he introduced to the same world. This book will keep the reader on the edge of their seat, bouncing between the erotic interludes of Caleb and Livvie, and the terrifying realities of the world they live in...and somehow, the ending leaves you just as breathless for a different reason.
