Review: Against the Ropes

Against the Ropes
Against the Ropes by Sarah Castille

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Against the Ropes was a hot read with some bdsm elements and a super alpha male. I loved that Makayla was a med student who got sick at the sight of blood and violence-it worked, considering her past history. She was smart (mostly) and justifiably felt overwhelmed sometimes by Torment's alpha tendencies and the pure physical violence that his body represented. There was a twist in an element of Torment's circumstances that, while I won't spoil, will say that I think it was unnecessary. He is a secret billionaire socialite by day, secret MMA fighter by night. Could he have just been a rich MMA fighter? I don't know. Still liked it.

There are plenty of hot, kinky scenes to keep you on your toes and Torment is actually a great guy, kinky fuckery and super alpha male tendencies and all. There are a great cast of characters in the story that will keep you laughing.

Review: Unbeloved

Unbeloved
Unbeloved by Madeline Sheehan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There are some authors that you know will get at least 4 stars from you just because you opened the book. Enter Madeline Sheehan. Her books are not filled with roses and unicorns, but with grit and grime. Through that, there is an overwhelming presence of love. Dorothy's story is a hard-won and enduring story of love, loss, and third chances.

This book takes place about 7 years after the events of the last book, and the action never stops. Hawk has a secret past that catches up with him, and forces he and Dorothy to come to terms with their feelings for each other. Meanwhile, Jase comes to terms with himself and his family.

We also get to touch base with our favorite (and not so favorite) Horsemen and their old ladies. We see the generational difference between the older old ladies and the younger old ladies, trailblazing and creating their own history. There were many laugh out loud moments, but sweet and tender moments as well. Such a great, captivating read! MS keeps you turning the page, eating up every single detail, as well as whetting your appetite for what's to come.

ARC Book Review: Harder by Robin York

Harder (Caroline & West, #2)Harder (Caroline & West #2) by

Harder continues the story of West and Caroline, the opposites who can't help but stay attracted.

West has returned to his hometown to try to take care of his family, but things are not turning out the way he expected. Yes, his mother has re-entered the toxic relationship with his father, but he has to keep an eye on his little sister from afar as his father won't even let him in the house. As a result, he is living with his mom's ex boyfriend and working himself to the bone to make ends meet. Meanwhile Caroline's father has taken the court case regarding her ex boyfriend's release of their private photos on and ran with it. It's all he wants to talk about but Caroline has become a stronger and better woman after dealing with this with West by her side. Suddenly, West calls her with terrible news, and she drops everything to run to his side. She flies to his hometown and supports him through the toughest time in his life, despite the fact that he regrets the momentary weakness in calling her. He tries everything he can to get her to go back to Iowa, to stay away from his crazy family and his crazy life, but she refuses until he pulls a stunt so revolting she gives in an gets on a plane home. However life is never easy or predictable, and West ends up back at school in Iowa, and he isn't alone.

Caroline is one of my favorite heroines. She is so intelligent, sharp, and she calls West out when she needs to. West is such a good guy but he can't see the forest for the trees. He doesn't know how to live a life when he isn't in survival mode and Caroline shows him the way. West has to figure out what he wants now that he has what he needs, and the results are happily surprising. Caroline and West are a true power couple-I would love to check in on them in 10 years and see where they are. Great read.

A sexy little slice of life in the Los Perdidos MC. Jenny and her college friends have decided to take their curiosity of the local motorcycle club to the next level and hang out at a bar they frequent. There, Jenny meets Smoke and the sparks fly immediately. After spending a little time on the dance floor, the dangerous and cocky Smoke offers to take Jenny home when her friends are ready to leave. Here is where things really get hot.

This is the first of a serial. I hate being addicted to serials so I may wait until a box set comes out. If you are in the mood for a quick and dirty read, this is it!

Review: Deeper

Deeper
Deeper by Robin York

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's my favorite thing when an author gets it right. In the New Adult genre it's so easy to get it wrong, but I absolutely fell in love with Caroline and West.

Caroline's dick of an ex boyfriend posted sexually explicit pictures of her on a revenge porn website after they broke up; he was her first love and acted as if he had nothing to do with it, even indicating that it was her fault. West has a lot of baggage; his home life is terrible as he isn't around to take care of his mother and sister, and while he has made connections to get college paid for he works three jobs (including selling weed) to pay for room and board and to send back home.

Their first year at school together, they avoided each other but the chemistry was there-everyone could see it. Things take a turn when West beats Caroline's ex down and she confronts West about it. From there they start a sexually charged non-friends, non-benefits relationship that you are waiting on the edge of your seat to get with the bow chicka wow wows.

RY does a wonderful job of describing Caroline's pain, depression, and experience as a young woman whose life has been damaged by the actions of a petulant, spoiled, and vindictive asshole. You root for Caroline as she finds her voice again and starts to fight back. You root for she and West to somehow come together and stay together. I loved this book, and I'm lucky enough to get to read the ARC of the next one!

This was a SEXY sexy sexy sexy (see where I'm going here?) story about a sex addicted stripper who finds a woman that is off limits...because she is his new temporary room mate.

Slade is actually a sweet, complicated man with a troubled past and he uses sex and alcohol as a coping mechanism. Aspen is a sweet, complicated young woman who needs to figure out her life-and knows that Slade is going to be nothing but trouble if she gives in to their incredible chemistry. Such a great read, and free on Kindle (as of now). There is going to be a whole series of these...and all of those guys are sexy as hell!

Review: Safe House

Safe House
Safe House by Dez Burke

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A solid and sexy biker novella with a minor cliffhanger. Kendra is one of the county's 2 vets, well known and very aware of the biker presence in town. One night she gets a call that someone has an injured animal that needs to be rescued, and when she gets to the rural location it turns out the Steel Infidels MC has a very handsome injured member who has been shot and needs medical attention. Flint turned his back on the MC for years and worked as a public defender, but when he gets some troubling news he decides to come home and is allowed to rejoin the MC. When he wakes up from getting shot he finds a hot, curvy brunette is his nursemaid for the weekend-but she drove a hard bargain with the MC and is no shrinking violet. This was a super sexy little bite-definitely one clicking the next in the series!

Review: It Ain't Me, Babe

It Ain't Me, Babe
It Ain't Me, Babe by Tillie Cole

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this take on the MC lifestyle. Styx is basically mute. He suffers from a debilitating stutter and there are only 3 people that he could ever use his voice with; his father, now dead, his best friend Ky who serves as VP to him, the Pres, and the stunning young girl he met through a fence in the forest when he was a boy. Fast forward fifteen years, and that same girl ends up in his compound bleeding out and having escaped the sick cult she was born in to.

Mae knows nothing about the world on the outside. All she knows is that she can't take anymore abuse, rape, and torture at the hands of the elders in her commune. The final straw was witnessing her sister dying after suffering weeks of abuse and beatings. Her sister made her promise to leave, escape the commune and live her life.

Styx and Hades Hangmen live a dangerous, rough, and gritty life, but Mae has war scars of her own. They can't deny the pull they have always had for each other and together they face the future. I'm very excited to see that more books are planned!! Seriously, something is WRONG with Flame. I can't wait to find out why he is the way he is.

Review: Fate

Fate
Fate by Nikki Sex

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book had a great premise. Emily has had a crush on her older brother's best friend Paul for years. He has always rejected her advances but always kept in contact with her as he valued her friendship. Some surprising circumstances between their families have scattered the three of them to different places, and now Paul hasn't seen Emily in years. Emily has a plan; she knows that Paul will be in Mexico and she plans to disguise herself so she can finally have a night with him. A boob job, some contacts, and a dye job later, Emily is now "Candy" and Paul actually falls hard for her. He isn't willing to just let her go, so they start an email relationship where "Candy" learns that Paul is a trained Dom and wants to bring her into the lifestyle.

This was an interesting story, with some great twists and education of the BDSM lifestyle. The characters were inside their heads a lot, which could get a little tedious, but overall I liked the story.

Review: Fall from India Place

Fall from India Place
Fall from India Place by Samantha Young

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ahhhh this was sooo good!

I have been waiting for this book for a while, and SY did not disappoint. As the fourth book in the ODS series, Fall from India Place is as strong as the first. Parts funny, poignant, and endearingly romantic, Hannah and Marco had quite the story to tell. All grown up, Hannah is a teacher with a loving family and friends. The only thing missing in her life is companionship, but there has only ever been one guy for her and he went back to America years ago...or so she thought. A chance meeting at a wedding reveals that Marco has been back in Scotland for 4 years and hasn't ever contacted her. Hurt beyond belief, Hannah avoids Marco's persistent pursuit of her; he wants a chance to explain the last five years and he won't take no for an answer.

The layers unraveled in this story are deep, full of pain, and full of love. This is a non-stop page turner that will have you on a roller coaster of emotions from beginning to end. 5 enthusiastic stars!

Review: Devil's Game

Devil's Game
Devil's Game by Joanna Wylde

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

LOVED IT.

This third entry into the Reaper's MC series actually takes us into the heart of the Devil's Jacks mindset. Liam and Em are more than star crossed lovers-they have serious issues to overcome. Like kidnapping.

I wanted more more more, of course, and there is a tease at the end about who may be next. I can't WAIT. Such a great read with the action, drama, and sexy times we all want. Stay tuned for a more in depth First Look.

Review: Caged Wolf

Caged Wolf
Caged Wolf by S.M. Reine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This sexy paranormal biker story features Ofelia, a scarred waitress and Trouble, an aptly named biker who rolls into the mystical town of Lobo Norte with his MC, the Fang Brothers.

Ofelia's boss knows that as soon as the Fang Brothers rolled into town, there would be trouble. She warns Ofelia to stay home, stay out of their way, and definitely don't go out after dark. However, Ofelia is broke and needs the tips. She works at the only bar in town, and the bar sponsors fight nights every 2 weeks. The minute Trouble walks into the bar with his bikers brothers, the chemistry is hot and palpable-and Trouble never utters a word.

It seems that Ofelia's boss was right to caution her-turns out Trouble is a werewolf who is just learning to control himself under the tutelage of his alpha and brothers. When it comes to Ofelia, however, he is having an even harder time controlling himself, and Ofelia doesn't want to control herself-she wants Trouble. Meanwhile, Ofelia has more than Trouble to worry about as she gets back in touch with her witch roots to protect her from the rival gangs that have swarmed into Lobo Norte-including the gang that is responsible for her scars. Also, she has a pesky tarot card that keeps following her around.

This had some laugh out loud moments, but plenty of sexy ones as well. Definitely a good read.
